GTA 6 in LOVE Magazine: Lucia Drives, Jason Reacts, and a Smaller American Dream
Rockstar's narrative team talked to LOVE Magazine for Issue 27. Here is what the interview adds about Jason, Lucia, Raul, the people of Leonida and the satire, what it leaves out, and what it means for how you play.
One week after Game Informer's cover story, Rockstar gave its second big print interview of the launch run to LOVE, a British fashion and culture magazine. Issue 27 went on sale on October 5, 2026, at 25 euros, and the print run sold out within minutes of pre-orders opening, according to Beebom and Khel Now. The issue carries new artwork of Jason and Lucia, a handful of new in-game images (coverage describes the pair in a diner and at a pool table), and a long conversation with Rockstar's narrative and art leads.
Game Informer was about systems: weather, wildlife, map size. LOVE is about people. That makes it less useful for planning your first week and more useful for understanding what kind of story you are walking into. Below is what the interview says, based on reports from Vice, Beebom, GTAVice.net, GTAGames.nl and Khel Now. Where only one outlet reported a detail, we say so or leave it out.
Who spoke
The list matters because it shows which parts of the game Rockstar wanted to talk about. Coverage names Rockstar North co-studio heads Rob Nelson and Aaron Garbut, senior vice president of narrative Rupert Humphries, vice president of art Michael Kane, writing director James Horton, and game writers Elizabeth Gauvey-Kern and Alexa D'Agostino. Five of the seven work on story, writing or characters. Nobody from online, technology or business is in the piece, and nothing in the reports touches multiplayer, a PC version, install size or unlock times.
Lucia pushes, Jason gets pushed
The clearest new statement is about how the two leads differ. Every report gives the same contrast: Lucia is determined to build a better life and goes after it, while Jason mostly reacts to situations that leave him little control over his next move. GTAVice.net's summary puts it as Lucia being the engine of the pair and Jason the brake.
That fits what the trailers already showed. Lucia's story opens with her in Leonida Penitentiary and a resolution to make only smart moves from then on. Jason, in Rockstar's own description, wants an easy life and keeps getting pulled back in. The interview adds that his slide into drug running and bank jobs is driven by material circumstances rather than ambition, which GTAVice.net and GTAGames.nl both report.
Elizabeth Gauvey-Kern's line, quoted by Vice and Beebom, is that the writers wanted both protagonists to be "vulnerable, tough, flawed, right sometimes, wrong sometimes" and able to learn from each other. Alexa D'Agostino's point, per Vice, was that each character needed their own desires and motivations. In practice, that suggests the two will disagree on screen, and that neither one is written as the voice of reason.
Vice also reports LOVE's framing that Lucia is the first playable woman in the series with her own voice, a developed backstory and a leading role in the dialogue. That is a more careful claim than the usual "first female protagonist" headline, and it is the version we use from now on.
A smaller American Dream
Rockstar's narrative team described the game's take on the American Dream in modest terms. For Jason and Lucia, according to Beebom and GTAGames.nl, the goal is not a mansion and a yacht. It is a home, supporting a family, and getting out of debt.
This matters more than it sounds. GTA protagonists usually chase a big score. A story built around rent and debt fits what the Extended Look already showed: Jason working off favours for Brian, the couple doing small, risky jobs, money tight from the opening hours. It also fits the shared bank account. If the story is about two people trying to stabilise one household, a joint wallet is the mechanical version of that idea.
Expect the early game to feel deliberately lean. Our money guides already advise spending on income before toys. The interview gives that advice a story reason.
Lucia's past and Raul's role
Two outlets repeat that Lucia grew up in Liberty City. That matches Rockstar's official character description and our characters page, so nothing changes there. GTAGames.nl adds that she has a migrant background. We have not seen that stated in the other reports, so treat it as reported, not confirmed.
Raul Bautista, the veteran bank robber from Rockstar's character list, is described in the interview as an older mentor who brings local and criminal knowledge of Vice City. Both GTAVice.net and GTAGames.nl report this. It supports the reading, already on our story page, that Raul's jobs are the step up from small hustles to organised scores.
No such thing as background
The most interesting design detail is about ordinary pedestrians. Both GTAVice.net and GTAGames.nl report that Rockstar has a dedicated team writing pedestrian and NPC dialogue, separate from the main story writers. GTAVice.net reports James Horton saying, in effect, that nothing in the game is background, only foreground the player is not paying attention to.
Read alongside Game Informer's reporting on 170+ animal species and localized weather, the pattern is clear: Rockstar's public message for this game is density. For players, the takeaway is practical. Slow down in crowds, listen to phone calls and street arguments, and expect side content to start from people you walk past, not only from map icons. It is also a good case for playing part of the game with the radio low.
Satire without headlines
Rupert Humphries described Leonida, per Vice, as a state where extreme wealth and relentless ambition collide, exaggerated so it is louder and more confrontational than the real world. Both GTAVice.net and GTAGames.nl report that the team avoids chasing short-term trends and current events, and goes after conspiracy theories and the strange ways people react to the news instead. That is a sensible choice for a game that will be played for a decade: jokes about one specific 2026 news story would age in months.
If you were expecting direct parodies of named real-world figures, the interview points the other way.
How Leonida was researched
Aaron Garbut described the research trips. Both GTAVice.net and GTAGames.nl report that teams drove from Miami down through the Keys to Key West, that larger groups went back to important locations, that they spent time with locals, police and gang members, and that helicopters were hired to film aerial footage of the region.
None of this is new as a method; Rockstar has talked about field trips before. What it confirms is that the Keys route, which our map guide recommends as your starting area, was studied on the ground rather than built from photos.
What the interview does not tell us
There is no install size, no unlock time, no news on online play and no PC announcement in any of the reports. Our launch tools keep their current status: the 150 to 200 GB planning range and midnight local time from store listings are still estimates, not Rockstar statements. Preload remains November 12 and launch November 19, 2026.
There are also no new gameplay systems. If you see a video claiming LOVE revealed a new mechanic, check it against the list above.
What changed on this site
Nothing in the interview contradicts what we had published. We added a short update to our story overview pointing here, and we now describe Lucia, following LOVE's wording, as the first protagonist in the series with her own voice, backstory and leading role in the dialogue.
